About Stan

Stan White is offering drum set lessons at his “Drum Dojo” in Toronto and Barrie, Ontario.

Stan has over 7 years of teaching experience and offers an adaptable pedagogy to beginner and intermediate students, focusing on both theory and play.

His students have said “His (Stan’s) articulate nature conveys new ideas into students minds with ease. Through the use of metaphors and demonstrations, Stanley makes the wide world of music easy to understand.”

Another said “He is patient, adaptable, and a dynamic instructor who instills confidence in his students. He has the capacity to connect with his students, to take what seems to be a difficult concept and to break it down into simpler forms.

Lessons focus on drum set technique, sound development, musical approaches to playing and performing different styles of music on the drum set, and practicing vocabulary from those styles.

Stan graduated from York University receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours in June 2014 where he studied jazz performance on drum kit, as well as conga and other hand drumming traditions. Both before and after university Stan was also a private student of Jim Blackley and Ray Reilly.

Stan has performed with R&B groups and stage band groups, Indie Rock Groups, an African griot ensemble and he currently play in the band “Jonesin’ and the Hurt.”

With the aim of making the most of our musical endeavours, it is Stan’s intention that students will begin to investigate and cultivate an internal understanding of time and sound, to begin to develop their own expression on the drum set.
